ABOUT ME

I am an avid hiker and nature and landscape photographer.

I started getting interested in landscape photography and image editing over 20 years ago. At first I was more interested in image restoration and collages, then I became immersed in colour theory, page layout, illustration programs, etc.

I think I purchased my first digital camera, which was a 4 mega pixel FujiFilm camera in 2002. I took landscape and cityscape photographs and then spent countless hours in Adobe Photoshop to stitch together seamless collages and panoramas . I purchased a tripod with a video head (I did not know the difference between a pan and tilt head vs a ball head at the time) and started to play with slow shutter speeds and attempt night sky photography. It would be a while later that I would learn about other applications of the tripod, such as focus stacking, light bracketing, creating time blends and son on. Looking back at some of my earlier works, I actually still find some of them not too shabby.

A while later, I purchased an A3 Epson photo printer and started collaborating with local photography studios to do photo restoration as a side gig. I often ended up spending more money than I made, but it was fun.

After I moved to Canada, I spent a few years settling down and trying to find a place for myself, so I kind of turned my back on photography for a while. What rekindled my passion was moving to Thunder Bay and starting to hike the beautiful trails we have here as well as picking up back country camping as an interest. When I do go camping I often spend most of the night star gazing or night-time hiking. My interest in camping is really primarily driven by night sky photography.

I often visit the same locations under different weather and light conditions to see how that might affect my perspective on things. I also often plan my photo shoots using apps that help me figure out where or when the sun or moon would rise or set at a specific location or when the Milky Way would be at a specific perceived elevation in the sky or in a specific direction.

I really feel privileged to live on the traditional land of the Anishinaabe peoples of northwestern Ontario, and I honour their enduring connection to this land. My photography aims to celebrate the beauty of this land and the other parts of our beautiful planet that I am occasionally fortunate to visit.

Whether you’re just stopping by to enjoy my art, or if something catches your eye, and you’d like to see a print of it on your wall, feel free to reach out and let me know. In any case, thanks for stopping by
